Closing your hat

Our hat knit-a-long is almost finished. In this reel we will take the stitches off the knitting needles. You will need a darning needle with a big enough eye to thread two stands of yarn.

Try your hat on again. If you can feel the knitting touching without a gap at the top of your head, you are ready to take the stitches off the knitting needles.

  • Cut yarn long enough to thread all 58 stitches.

  • Thread yarn onto darning needle.

  • Carefully thread the darning needle through each stitch. Keep threading the stitches onto the cut yarn until all stitches have been removed from your knitting needles.

  • Now turn your hat inside out and pull the cut yarn tight until a very small gap is all that is remaining at the top of your hat.

  • Using your darning needle that is still attached to the cut yarn, sew up the small gap, secure yarn tightly and cut yarn. Weave in any yarn end you might have.

  • Now turn your hat right side out.

  • To weave in the yarn end at the brim of your hat, un-roll the brim, weave in the end, and roll the brim back up.

Next step is to smile and be very proud of your self and of the hat you just made. Our final video will be adding a pompom with show and tell photos of our beautiful hats. Please share your progress, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me.
